Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931-11 January
2015) was an Swedish actress, famous for her stunning physique and attractive
appearance. Her role as Sylvia, in Federico Fellini's movie La Dolce Vita
(1960) was a hit and made her famous. Ekberg worked primarily in Italy which is
where she was permanent residents in 1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September
1931, in (Sweden) and was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a fashion model
during her teenage years. Ekberg entered the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 on
the advice of her mother. She was crowned the Miss Sweden contest. Despite
speaking little English Ekberg traveled to the United States to compete for the
Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an unofficial pageant at the time. The
pageant officially became official in 1952. Ekberg was not the winner of the
Miss Universe pageant. However she was among six finalist. Universal Studios
offered her an opportunity to be a starlet. Ekberg was a Universal starlet
where she was taught acting, dancing, and drama. She was briefly seen in The
Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as a woman on Venus), Take Me
to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
